Welcome to My Practice

Thank you for your interest in my mental health practice. I'm dedicated to providing exceptional psychiatric care to older adolescents and adults ages 16 and up throughout Texas.

My approach is grounded in relational cultural theory, which recognizes that healing happens within authentic connections. I believe that growth-fostering relationships are central to mental wellbeing, and that disconnections—both past and present—often contribute to psychological distress. I'm also committed to decolonizing therapy by acknowledging how our collective histories, including historical trauma and sociopolitical contexts, shape our mental health experiences.

As both a Licensed Professional Counselor and Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, I offer a comprehensive toolkit that includes therapeutic conversations and medication management when appropriate. I strive to honor diverse ways of healing and recognize that wellbeing extends beyond Western medical models to include ancestral wisdom and cultural practices.

Working in collaboration with psychiatrist Dr. Jeffrey Benzick, I provide personalized care that honors your lived experience. I view therapy as a mutual partnership where we work together to understand patterns of connection and disconnection in your life. I firmly believe that you are the expert on your own life, while I bring specialized knowledge and tools to our relationship.

In our work together, we'll explore how to cultivate more authentic connections—with yourself, your community, and your cultural roots—as you move toward greater wholeness and peace.

Services & Clinical Approaches

  • My practice is founded on the understanding that healing happens within relationships. This approach recognizes that connection is at the core of human growth, while disconnection often leads to psychological distress. Through our therapeutic relationship, we work to identify patterns that may be hindering authentic connection in your life.

  • I have completed Weekend 1 of the EMDR Institute Basic Training and am currently working toward full certification through supervised consultation. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a powerful approach that helps the brain process disturbing memories that may be stored in a way that continues to cause distress. Through guided bilateral stimulation (eye movements, tapping, or sounds), EMDR helps your brain reprocess these experiences to reduce their emotional impact. This approach is particularly effective for addressing trauma and aligns with my commitment to honoring the impact of past experiences on current wellbeing.

  • As a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner working in collaboration with a board-certified psychiatrist, I provide comprehensive medication evaluation and management. This dual qualification allows me to address both psychological and biological aspects of mental health, creating a seamless care experience for clients ages 16 and older who are experiencing depression, anxiety, inattention, and/or poor concentration.

What is EMDR therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based therapy that helps people heal from emotional distress and trauma. It recognizes that our brains can become overwhelmed when processing difficult experiences, leaving these memories stored in a way that continues to cause distress. Through guided bilateral stimulation (eye movements, tapping, or sounds), EMDR helps your brain reprocess these memories so they no longer cause the same level of distress.

How does EMDR fit with your relational and culturally-informed approach?

EMDR therapy complements my relational cultural approach by recognizing how disconnections—including traumatic experiences—impact our mental wellbeing. It provides a powerful tool for addressing how these experiences are stored in the brain and body. I integrate EMDR within a culturally sensitive framework that acknowledges both personal and collective trauma, including historical and intergenerational experiences that may affect your mental health.

What kinds of concerns can EMDR help with?

EMDR was originally developed for trauma but has been found effective for many concerns including:

  • Depression and anxiety

  • Past traumatic experiences and PTSD

  • Disturbing memories

  • Phobias and panic attacks

  • Grief and loss

  • Chronic pain

  • Performance anxiety
